codeberg ahead

A few days ago I moved the site from Neocities to Codeberg Pages. I meant to write up a post on my experiences sooner, but I got busy with other projects. Oh well, I'm doing it now.

I want to start my making it clear that my move from the host shouldn't be thought to reflect some sort of resentment towards the platform. On the contrary: in lieu of good self-hosting opportunities (I still hold out hope that one day I'll have an ISP that lets me make use of Yunohost) I believe that services like Neocities and Nekoweb are the best option for free homepages for beginners. They're just not the best option for me. It's against my nature to host parts of myself (for that is ultimately what this website is) on fragile ecosystem.

This is my first time using a git repository. I find it weird, but not unusable. Codeberg has idiosyncrasies I don't understand, like file upload limits. I can work around those, though. I enjoy that I can now use my own custom domain. I also enjoy that every piece of code that makes up my site is now "open source" and historied. I hope that I find Codeberg to be a comfortable place for my site long-term!
